Every good L.A. resident knows who Angelyne is, and chances are, you’ve seen her driving around in her famous pink corvette at one time or another. In fact, back when I first moved to Los Angeles and was living in Hollywood (circa 2007) Miss Angelyne would often park herself in one of those “$10 Flat Rate” parking lots near Hollywood & Highland – just around the corner from my old digs. That was the first time I was introduced to her royal randomness.
“But who IS she?” I demanded of my roommate at the time.
He shrugged and replied, “I dunno. Some chick who made a bunch of billboards of herself and drives around in a pink car all day”.
Some chick who made a much of billboards of herself and drives around in a pink car all day, indeed ! Intentionally creating an air of “mystique” about herself by never providing any biographical information, no one really knows that much about this broad who became an overnight Hollywood icon by simply plastering the city with life-sized billboards of her scantily-clad self. And although she claims to be a model, does anyone really know what type of modeling work she did other than self-promotion? And yet, does it really matter? Everyone knows who she is without even knowing who she IS – it’s genius!
So why am I rambling about Angelyne? Why, because you can meet her, of course! And why wouldn’t you want to rub elbows with the randomly famous? Plus, it’s free!
Lethal Amounts, a self-proclamed “exercise in poor taste and an assault on the senses” which creates street art, clothing, accessories, etc. is putting on an Angelyne T-Shirt & Art Exhibition this Saturday (February 16th) at 8pm – hosted by Angelyne herself. The event will feature a display of Angelyne memorabilia such as vintage Angelyne billboards, artwork, records, her pink corvette, and other various items associated with her reign as a Hollywood billboard queen.
The exhibit is being put as a means to commemorate the launch of a limited-time, original Angelyne T-Shirt crafted by Lethal Arts. Only 500 of these babies were made, so it’s first-come, first-serve and anyone who buys a shirt gets entered in a raffle to go for a spin in Angelyne’s pink corvette.
In addition to all of the Angelyne madness, there will be drinks available (for those of legal age), DJ Howie Pyro, and a live show put on by YOUTHQUAKE NYC.
All in all, it looks like this is a great event for anyone looking for something weird and unique to do for free this weekend in the LA area.
